Constitution Shredding

by Wayne Spencer - August 8, 2007
Another sad chapter added to this already catastrophic third millennium. Both the houses of Congress passed the "Protect America Act" this past week. Not since the PATRIOT ACT has such a noble name been attached to Anti-American legislation.

And what could be more Un-American than the destruction of the Constitution of the United States of America. Every public official and every soldier in the military takes an oath to "protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

In case anyone has been watching, we were all very much aware that the Republican Party, as a group, has been consistently against the U.S. Constitution in general and the Bill of Rights in particular. Most Democrats believed that the answer was to elect more Democrats to Congress. The Democrats in Congress have been very vocal about the President's illegal wiretapping activities and about Alberto Gonzales's role in it.. what have they done about it? They passed the "Protect America Act" and have now given overt approval to the unconstitutional acts of the President. If it were not such a serious matter it would be political farce.

For those readers who are interested here is a list of Democratic Senators who voted in favor of shreding the Fourth Amendment: Bayh (D-IN), Carper (D-DE), Casey (D-PA), Conrad (D-ND), Feinstein (D-CA), Inouye (D-HI), Klobuchar (D-MN), Landrieu (D-LA), Lieberman (ID-CT), Lincoln (D-AR), McCaskill (D-MO), Mikulski (D-MD), Nelson (D-FL), Nelson (D-NE), Pryor (D-AR), Salazar (D-CO) and Webb (D-VA).

Please take note of the number of self-proclaimed liberals in this group. I included Lieberman in the list even though he did not run as a Democrat because I don't want my friends in Connecticut to forget that they have a job to do to get him defeated next time around.

And now for the House Democrats: Altmire, Barrow, Bean, Boren, Boswell, Boyd (FL), Carney, Chandler, Cooper, Costa, Cramer, Cuellar, Davis (AL), Davis(Lincoln), Donnelly, Edwards, Ellsworth, Etheridge, Gordon, Herseth(Sandlin), Higgins, Hill, Lampson and Lipinski.

Write to your state and local Democratic Committees and let them know that this is not the way you expect to be represented by your elected Democratic officials. To be complacent is to loose our democracy.

Readers comments are always welcomed.
